Quentin Hart is serving his first term as Mayor for the City of Waterloo. Previously, he was the Associate Director of Multicultural Affairs at Hawkeye Community College. In 2006, Hart became the Director and Founder of From the Heart - Waterloo Home Enhancement Project This 100% volunteer housing project works to improve homes for residents that are elderly, financially challenged, or physically disabled. Hart is also involved with a number of other local, state and national boards such as Iowa Commission on Aging, the Iowa Department of Education - Equity Leadership Team, National Alliance for Partnerships in Equity, to name a few.
He received his MAE in Postsecondary Education in Student Affairs from the University of Northern Iowa and received a BA in Sociology from Minnesota State University and attended East Waterloo High School. Recognized for his passion and commitment to the state and community, Hart has been honored with numerous awards including: 2014 From the Heart: Gift of Legacy National Philanthropy Day, 2013 Distinguished Public Service Award KBOL Radio and Social Action Inc., 2009 KBBG Citizen of the Year Award, 2009 Iowa Legislature Community Service Award, 2009 Koob Collaboration Award Winner, 2007 NAACP Community Service Award, 2005 Waterloo Commission on Human Rights Citizen of the Year Award, the 2001 Business Link 20 Under 40, and the 2000 Waterloo Courier Unsung Heroes, among others. Hart recently traveled to Egypt in November 2011 as part of a delegation with the American Council of Young Political leaders, whose purpose is to give political leaders under the age of 40 international opportunities
Hart is happily married to Cassandra Hart, a 2007 Gold Star Award Teacher, and is the father of two sons, Quentin Jr. and Quenden; and one daughter, Halayah.
