Waterloo Mayor Quentin Hart is excited to announce the Mayor’s Independence Day Extravaganza will take place on June 30, 2018 at the Riverloop Amphitheatre in downtown Waterloo. A full day of activities is planned to kick off the holiday week including an extra spectacular fireworks display to make-up for the My Waterloo Days fireworks rain-out.
The Mayor’s Independence Day Extravaganza begins at 3:30pm with a performance by the Waterhawks Ski Team on the Cedar River in front of the Ampitheatre. The Water Hawks will perform again between musical acts. Bill Shepard and the Cedar Valley Big Band will begin at 4:00 followed by Milk & Honey at 6:00pm. Sugar Foot will take the stage at 9:00 and international blues icon Kevin B.F. Burt will play between 9:30 and 11:00pm. The My Waterloo Days lighted boat parade will set sail at 9:00pm with the fireworks, sponsored by JSA Development and the VGM Group, beginning at 10:00pm over the river. Aspro and Hawkeye Community College are sponsors of the live entertainment.
“ These fireworks are going to rival any we’ve seen in the area for a long time,” says Main Street Director Jessica Ruckers. “JSA Development has graciously allowed us transfer their MWDs sponsorship to the Mayor’s fireworks. Add that to the generous sponsorship provided by the VGM Group and the flexibility of our fireworks vendor, we are expecting a show to remember!”
Additional community sponsors include: Wells Fargo, Panther Builders, Vandewalle & Associates, and Veridian Credit Union. Media sponsors are KWWL and Coloff Media including the 93.5 the Mix, KCFI, and 1650 The Fan.
“Sponsorships and volunteer support of community celebrations like this helps make Waterloo the kind of place where people choose to live, spend time, and share their lives,” says Mayor Hart. “They make Waterloo feel like home.”
Food vendors will be on-site. Coolers will not be permitted. Organizers discourage bringing pets to the event.
