The City of Waterloo has lost a valued staff member of the Waterloo Housing Authority. Housing Coordinator Tajah Wright passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 13. Her presence will be missed both professionally and personally by staff and clients. Tajah exemplified the best in ‘public service’ as she advocated for clients and did so with a cheerful and generous spirit to all. Tajah leaves a legacy in this community through the lives changed through homeownership and good financial practices.

As a Housing Coordinator, Tajah not only carried a caseload of approximately 260 participants each year, but also managed the Voucher Homeownership Program, Money Smart Financial Education Classes, and First-Time Homebuyer Education Classes. Tajah worked tirelessly in her position with the City to ensure that low-income residents were given the tools for homeownership, and that rent-assisted participants were treated with fairness and respect.

Prior to her employment with the Waterloo Housing Authority in April of 2015, Tajah worked at Operation Threshold for 9 years, holding the positions of Storks’ Nest Coordinator, Community Resources Specialist and Housing Counselor for their foreclosure program. Tajah recently served on the Iowa State Extension Board, the Waterloo Human Rights Commission, and the Northeast Iowa Food Bank Board.

Julie Dawson, Waterloo Housing Authority Director shares, “Tajah’s passion, energy and ever-present smile, as well as her good attitude and helpfulness will be sorely missed by our staff, as well as our clients.”
