Public Notice: Park and 11st Street Bridge Replacement

REQUEST FOR PERMISSION TO MODIFY A
U.S. ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS PROJECT UNDER
SECTION 408

Proposed Removal and Reconstruction of the Park Avenue Bridge and
11th Street Bridge over the Cedar River in Black Hawk County, Iowa
(Public Notice ID # 2021-0007, #2021-0018)

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District is reviewing two requests from the City of Waterloo, Iowa, to remove and reconstruct both the Park Ave. and 11th St. bridges over the Cedar River. These bridges are within the Right Descending Bank Cedar River/Right Descending Bank Black Hawk Creek. (South West) Levee system and the Waterloo & Evansdale, IA - Left Descending Bank Cedar River Levee System respectively. Both are existing Federally authorized flood risk management project situated along the Cedar River. The Corps’ review process includes a public comment period to evaluate the public’s interest in the proposed alteration. The public comment period is currently open and runs through August 23rd.

Both the Right Descending Bank Cedar River/Right Descending Bank Black Hawk Creek. (South West) Levee and the Waterloo & Evansdale, IA - Left Descending Bank Cedar River Levee were constructed in 1982. Together these levees protect approximately 7,126 buildings in downtown Waterloo, Iowa.
